According to a report, Borussia Dortmund is not planning any major activity on the transfer market in January despite the delicate personnel situation and small squad. According to “Ruhr Nachrichten”, after a modest first half of the season in terms of sport, BVB does not want to rule anything out, but, as we learned upon request, additions are not planned.

Rather, those responsible at Dortmund still consider it right to have deliberately started the season with a small squad. Taking into account the personnel shortage, there is no absolute need for improvements. Due to many injuries, only 16 field players are currently available without restrictions. Alongside RB Leipzig, the Black and Yellows have the smallest squad in the league with 24 professionals.

One argument for the attitude of the BVB bosses around sports director Sebastian Kehl and sports director Lars Ricken is, on the one hand, that the most critical point has been left behind with ten injured or suspended professionals at times. On the other hand, an alternative for the only classic nine player Serhou Guirassy (28) would expand the options and provide relief – but a suitable and financially justifiable option on the market is difficult to find, especially since there is no high budget for new players in winter. In addition, Borussia Dortmund does not want to deny talents like Almugera Kabar (19) or Kjell Wätjen (18) the chance to play by presenting well-known newcomers.

User opinion: Enough options for BVB in winter

BVB fan “GonzoFronzo” certainly sees options to strengthen himself in the winter, as he wrote in the Dortmund TM forum: “So there are already some dissatisfied players who actually have the quality to strengthen BVB in the winter, man just have to find it and strive for it. A Kolo Muani e.g. B. (plays for PSG; editor), for whom there is currently no real need, but who can also come from outside, is quite dissatisfied (…). In my opinion, there are enough options to clearly strengthen the squad, at least through a loan, in the winter. You just have to go to players who are really dissatisfied and would like to recommend themselves to another club if there are no players “You can then sign them permanently, by the summer at the latest.”
