Even after the transfer deadline, it took a while for Chelsea FC to speak up. Now it is clear: Jadon Sancho will spend the new season at Stamford Bridge and will stay with the Blues beyond that. A loan with an obligation to buy for the former BVB professional has been agreed with Manchester United.
“I grew up in London and I’m happy to be back here,” the 24-year-old said in a club statement about his move. “The coach spoke to me about the project and it’s exciting for a young player.”
Sancho will take the place of Raheem Sterling (29), who was loaned to Arsenal on a short-term basis, in Chelsea’s squad. The condition for the initial loan to become a permanent commitment is, according to reports, at least 14th place in the Premier League table. United will then receive a transfer fee of around 23.75 million euros, which can increase to a market-value 30 million through bonuses.
Sancho and United coach Erik ten Hag had a falling out at the start of the preseason. After the coach criticized the dribbling artist’s attitude to training, Sancho accused him of lying on social media. He was then suspended.
BVB then loaned Sancho, who had already played for the Black and Yellows from 2017 to 2021, and hoped for another loan. Sancho moved to Manchester in 2021 for 85 million euros. At the beginning of the summer, he returned to United and spoke to ten Hag. Nevertheless, the striker has now been sold to Chelsea FC.
