With 75 million new signing Omar Marmoush in the starting line-up, England’s champions Manchester City have made the jump to fourth place in the table. On the former Frankfurt player’s debut, Pep Guardiola’s team won 3-1 (1-1) against Chelsea FC. Before the crucial Champions League game against FC Brugge, the Skyblues impressed after falling behind early on. The agile Marmoush played for 74 minutes and scored a goal, which was disallowed for offside (34th minute).

For the hosts, another debutant was initially the focus. The 20-year-old central defender Abdukodir Khusanov, who came from RC Lens for 40 million in the winter, failed to return a header. Nicolas Jackson picked up the ball and passed it on to Noni Madueke, who effortlessly slotted it into the empty City goal (3′).

Then City woke up: Phil Foden hit the post (11th). Left-back Josko Gvardiol missed two good opportunities (25th/40th). Shortly before the break, the former Leipzig player scored on his third opportunity to equalize 1-1. After a mistake by Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez, Erling Haaland made it 2-1 (68th) with an assist from his own goalkeeper Ederson. With 18 goals this season, he is only one behind Mohamed Salah in the top scorer list. Foden made the final score 3-1 perfect after Haaland’s pass (87′).

In contrast to Khusanov and Marmoush, defensive talent Vitor Reis, who had also just been signed, initially sat on the bench for 90 minutes.
