VfL Bochum is apparently giving in in the dispute with the dismissed Manuel Riemann. As “WAZ” reports, the 36-year-old former goalkeeper will be allowed to train with the professional team again from the beginning of next week. The association is also preventing a trial in court, which would have started on Tuesday and which might have brought to light many incidents that were not intended for the public.

According to the report, VfL also had to expect to lose to Riemann in the process. Nevertheless, parts of the supervisory board are said to have resisted pardoning the keeper for a long time, but in the end Riemann and managing director Ilja Kaenzig were able to convince the relevant people to change their minds – for the benefit of the club.

According to reports, there has already been a conversation between the new coach Dieter Hecking and Riemann. When asked about the personnel in the “double pass”, Hecking explained on Sunday: “I inherited the topic. The club has to find the best solution. I’m an employee and I’ll support it.”

VfL Bochum: Riemann kept fit individually

Riemann is said to have kept himself individually fit in the last few months and is purified. However, a discussion with the team is still pending. In May, shortly before the end of the season, VfL released Riemann for the relegation game against Fortuna Düsseldorf while continuing to pay his salary and justified this measure with “irreconcilable different opinions on team content issues”. According to reports, Riemann had repeatedly clashed with fellow players. According to the club, it was not a “suspension or punishment”. Riemann has been with the Castroper Straße club since 2015 and came from Sandhausen on a free transfer. The keeper has since played 290 games in which he has kept 70 clean sheets.

The contract with Riemann runs until the summer of 2025. The Bundesliga club previously offered the keeper to take part in the U21 team training, but he refused and went to court, where he sued for a return to training under professional conditions. Patrick Drewes has been guarding the Bochum goal since this season, conceding 31 goals in eleven games and not keeping a clean sheet yet.
