Mark van Bommel could soon take over a club. The former Bayern professional and coach of VfL Wolfsburg has been without a club since the end of the Royal Antwerp FC last summer. Now the NEC Nijmegen wants to get him, reports the magazine “Voetbal International”.
Nijmegen will be trained by Rogier Meijer until the end of the season, who leaves the club with his expiring contract after five years. At the new season, van Bommel is to take over, who, according to the report, is a top candidate for the successor. Accordingly, he had already spoken to the club. Nijmegen is currently 13. The eredivisia and both the gap to the first European Cup square and the lead over the relegation rank is three points.
Van Bommel looked after Antwerp for two years, in 108 games he collected an average of 1.81 points. For him it was the third stop as head coach, previously he worked in Wolfsburg (2021) and at PSV Eindhoven (2018 to 2019).
