James Vowles, director of Williams F1 and new boss Carlos Sainz, assures that the progress that Williams has made in 20o24 has not been reflected in the final classification, with ninth place by team. However, as he believes, important foundations have been laid to take a good leap this year.
“The main thing is this: a lot of the really positive things that the world can’t see,” Vowles told ‘Motorsport.com’. “I can walk around the building and see the excellence that the pedigree of winning races has. I can see a change in what we are doing with the infrastructure, the culture, the people, even the commercial; it is simply a different world”, says the British coach.
The hiring of some illustrious F1 figures, the technical director Pat Fry (who was once Ferrari’s) and the design director Matt Harman, arrived from Alpineare accompanied by the computer science engineer Fabrice Moncade, who has arrived from Ferrari. They are the visible heads, but not the only ones, for the new project in which Sainz will be the main protagonist to take the leap they want.
“I have always said thatThe trip is 2023, 2024, 2025; They are just a progression and the track results won’t necessarily reflect the big changes that are happening behind the scenes,” explains Vowles.
“Do I think ninth place fully reflects what we have achieved? No. They are occurring Really cool technological advances and some really fantastic things coming. That’s what I’ve been focused on. There are some really cool technological advancements happening and some really great things coming. That’s what I’ve been focused on,” says the Briton.
“Am I frustrated that we are in ninth place? Yes, absolutely, because I still like to get to the race weekend and make the most of it, and this year we haven’t done that,” he says.
“We have been very affected by a fairly significant number of desertions. We have been affected [nuestra] own changing technology “We produced a car that was not at the weight limit and we simply haven’t been able to show the world what we can do.”emphasizes something that they hope to correct in 2025.
The podium, which would be the first since 2021 (Russell in Belgium), It is one of Williams’ goals this year and we must remember that Alex Albon was second in Brazil in the rain when he had an accident. Maybe this year Sainz will have a chance to materialize it.
