Sensation in the Nations League: Football dwarf San Marino has achieved promotion to League C. In the final group game, La Serenissima won 3-1 (0-1) in Liechtenstein and moved past Gibraltar into first place with seven points and a one-point lead.
Aron Sele (40th minute) gave the hosts the lead shortly before half-time. However, Lorenzo Lazzari (46th), Nicola Nanni (66th) with a penalty and Alessandro Golinucci (76th) turned the game around in the second half of the game and ultimately earned their first away win.
For San Marino it was only the third victory in the association’s history. At the beginning of September, the national team of the small state in northern central Italy had already won the first leg against Liechtenstein 1-0 – the same opponent against whom they achieved their very first victory (1-0) on April 28, 2004. For the first time, more than two goals were scored in an international match.
