According to a Spanish media report, Jonathan Tah is about to move to FC Barcelona. The Bayer Leverkusen central defender has therefore decided to go to the Catalans in the summer and become their first new signing of the coming season, reports the Catalan newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”.

The 28-year-old’s contract, in which the Catalans were said to have been interested before last season, expires next summer. Tah can then move for free, but can officially negotiate with other clubs from January 1st and also sign a new contract with another club – without having to take his current employer into account.

According to the report, Tah will receive a contract until June 30, 2030 at FC Barcelona, which is coached by former national coach Hansi Flick. With a market value of 30 million euros, Tah is the most valuable central defender with a contract ending in 2025. According to latest reports, a meeting from the Barça side took place on December 6th in the person of sporting director Deco and Tah’s representatives. At this meeting, the foundation stone for the German international’s move was apparently laid.

Like Barça, FC Bayern is said to have tried to recruit the defender last season. After a failed move at the end of last season, Tah emphasized that he did not want to extend his contract in Leverkusen. He is still a long-time favorite there and hasn’t missed a minute in the Bundesliga – like 17 other players in the German football upper house.

FC Barcelona: Do Christensen and García have to make way for Tah?

With a possible signing of Tah, Barça would have a total of seven central defenders next season. “Mundo Deportivo” therefore speculates that both Andreas Christensen (28) and Eric García (23) will probably leave the club, possibly even in the winter. This season, the 17-year-old top talent Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez (33; contract expires) are set.
