Leaders of the Süper Lig

In terms of sport, things are going brilliantly for Galatasaray this season. In the Süper Lig the lead over pursuers Fenerbahce is five points (to the table) and in the Europa League they are also at the top with eleven points from five games. Personnel planning for the winter is in full swing, including Ridle Baku from VfL Wolfsburg. However, an old friend from the Bundesliga could leave the club: Kerem Demirbay.
Turkish transfer reporter Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported on the reigning champions’ plans on Friday in a YouTube broadcast by “Sports Digitale”. This also includes the fundamental interest in Baku, which only has a contract in Wolfsburg until 2025. As a result, he could negotiate a winter move with interested clubs from January 1st.
This fits with reports from the “Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung” and the “Aller-Zeitung” that extending a contract with Lower Saxony is hardly an option anymore. Either VfL would have to sell the 26-year-old, who came from Mainz 05 for 10 million euros in the summer of 2020, in the winter, or they would part ways after the season without a transfer fee. Galatasaray is said to want to take advantage of this situation and sign Baku, although no information has been given as to when.
On the other hand, Demirbay could soon leave the club. The former Leverkusen player was on the field in 17 of 20 games in coach Okan Buruk’s team, but was only in the starting line-up three times. According to 31-year-old Sabuncuoğlu, that is not enough, which is why he is looking to leave. His contract runs until June 2026.
