More than two years after the end of Hertha BSC, Fredi Bobic could return to the football stage. According to the Croatian newspaper “Sportske Novosti”, the 53-year-old is the favorite for the free post of the sports director at Dinamo Zagreb. Bobic already knows Croatia from half a year as a player at the HNK Rijeka in the second half of 2005/06.
Zagreb originally wanted to present a new sports director by the end of March, but according to Vice President Dubravko Skender, the deadline was postponed by a few days. We are looking for a successor for Marko Maric, who had to go in office after around a year in early February. The report states that the Croatian serial champion, who has always become champion since 2018, are seven candidates on the note. Six of them should come from abroad. Dinamo is the third in the table after 27 game days, the team is trained by the former world-class defender Fabio Cannavaro.
Top candidate Bobic worked from June 2021 to January 2023 as head of sports at Hertha BSC. During this time, 34.3 million euros were invested in newcomers and revenues of 77.3 million euros were achieved with player sales. Bobic had sued, among other things, against his extraordinary termination and was therefore successful. However, an appeal was made against the judgment, and the parties are still in dispute. Specifically, it is about outstanding payments of around 3.5 million euros.
After the end in Berlin, Bobic was now associated with VfL Wolfsburg and a return to Stuttgart. In addition to Hertha in Germany, he also worked at Eintracht Frankfurt (2016 to 2021) and at VfB (2010 to 2014). At Chernomorets in 1919 Burgas in Bulgaria (2009 to 2010), he started his career as the person responsible.
