When looking for reinforcements for the second half of the season, RB Leipzig has apparently found what they are looking for at Celta Vigo. As the “Relevo” portal reports, the Saxons are ready to pay 20 million euros for the services of the Spanish all-rounder Óscar Mingueza.

If the recently stumbling Bundesliga team gets serious, FC Barcelona should also be happy about fresh income. According to the report, the Catalans, who let the 25-year-old homegrown player leave for free in 2022, are guaranteed 50 percent of the transfer fee. Barça also has a right of first refusal for Mingueza. This means: If the Spanish top club keeps up with Leipzig’s advances, they would ultimately get the contract.

According to reports, the plans are going in a different direction: Barça is not thinking about bringing back the once discarded professional and would instead be more interested in collecting the 10 million euros from a 20 million offer – valuable input for them the troubled finances. Instead of Mingueza, the 18-year-old right-back Héctor Fort is being relied upon.

Mingueza played his first game for the Spanish national team on June 8, 2021, and after a break of over three years, he was reinstated on November 18 in the Nations League against Switzerland (3-2) – for over 90 minutes at the back on the right. At Celta Vigo, the versatile right-footer still has a contract until 2026 and his market value is estimated at 12 million euros. With seven goals in 15 appearances, he is one of the 20 best scorers in LaLiga, mostly playing in the right midfield.

Interested party RB Leipzig is familiar with new Spanish signings – Mingueza would already be number five in the Red Bulls’ club history after Hugo Novoa, Josep Martínez, Angeliño and Dani Olmo, none of whom are active in Leipzig anymore. After Dominik Szoboszlai, Olmo and Eljif Elmas, Mingueza could become RB’s fourth most expensive winter purchase at the rumored transfer fee. In the first half of the season, the Saxons were and are plagued by some injury concerns.
