Juventus talent around Yıldız is increasing

After the Bundesliga, Premier League, LaLiga and Ligue 1, there are now 136 new market values in the Italian Serie A. These ensure a shift in the top 3 squad values: Juventus benefits from the good start under new coach Thiago Motta with many young players in the starting line-up and overtakes the big loser of the update with an increase of 19 million to 594 million euros, AC Milan. The Rossoneri have had a stuttering start and are also down by 39 million euros to 562 million euros because of Rafael Leão, the biggest market value loser.
Market values Italy: Yildiz one of the big winners – Leão loses 2nd place
The Portuguese winger’s price drops by €15m to €75m, his lowest value in two years. This means that Leão also loses second place in the Serie A market value ranking to Napoli attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Inter midfielder Nicolò Barella, who are each valued at 80 million euros. Top scorer Lautaro Martínez remains at the top with 110 million euros.

“Leão’s form curve has been pointing downwards for some time now,” says Jatin Dietl, Area Manager Italy at Transfermarkt, explaining the Milan star’s devaluation. “Occasionally you can see his great qualities, but he finds it difficult to bring them to the pitch consistently. Milan are not yet really settled under new coach Paulo Fonseca and Leão is unable to really make any progress at this stage. “The market for him has also cooled down and even at 25, Leão seems to lack the maturity that makes Christian Pulisic an outstanding player this season.”
The former Dortmund player is one of the positive exceptions for the Rossoneri and was even able to improve on his top form from the previous season – his tally so far: six goals and two assists in nine competitive games. That’s why Pulisic’s market value increases again, by 10 million euros to 50 million euros, bringing him closer to his career high of 60 million euros from his Chelsea days. “Pulisic has taken another big step forward and has initially taken over the role of Milan’s most important offensive player from Leão,” said Dietl. “Only Lautaro and Marcus Thuram have had more direct involvement in goals since Pulisic came to Italy.”
Milan’s Thiaw among market value losers: Bisseck most valuable German in Serie A
The losers at Milan include the players from the defense, which was not very solid, especially at the beginning, Fikayo Tomori (-8 to 32 million), the ex-Salzburg player Strahinja Pavlović, who was signed for 18 million euros (-5 to 20 million) and the former Schalke player Malick Thiaw (-5 to 20 million). The three-time German national player has lost his regular place at Milan and has only played one game of the season due to injury. As things stand, he should be back in action on matchday 8 against Udinese (6 p.m.). Meanwhile, compatriot Yann Bisseck from city rivals Inter has increased by 9 million to 25 million euros and is now the most valuable German professional in Serie A. “The 23-year-old is playing an increasingly important role in Simone Inzaghi’s defense and is already partly in Big games like against Man City Benjamin Pavard (-5 to 45 million; editor’s note). There were also some high-value offers in the summer, all of which Inter rejected,” explains Italy expert Dietl.

Douglas Luiz bucks the trend: Big market value gains at Juventus
There are big winners and one big loser in equal measure at record champions Juventus, who have only conceded one goal in the league and started the Champions League with two wins. The latter is summer signing Douglas Luiz, who came from Aston Villa for 51.5 million euros. “The Brazilian international has not yet arrived in Serie A and has been quite unfortunate at times, which is why he is still far from a regular place under Motta. But that’s not even the only reason,” says Dietl. “Aston Villa had to generate transfer income for Financial Fair Play in the summer and therefore agreed to a low transfer fee compared to the market value of 70 million euros. In addition, they have even agreed to sign Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea for a total of 22 million in return. Both were immediately loaned out.” Douglas Luiz falls by 15 million euros to 55 million euros.
This means he is now tied at the top of Juventus’ midfield rankings with market value winner Teun Koopmeiners (+5 to 55 million). However, the increases at the Old Lady are more significant for players who have not yet been signed as ready-made stars, but are currently being turned into one by Motta. The 19-year-old Turkish national player Kenan Yıldız, for example, is taking the next step under the new coach and increasing his salary by 10 million to 40 million euros. “Kenan has taken over the number 10 jersey this season and that is not the only reason why he is being compared to Alessandro del Piero. However, he doesn’t seem to be impressed by this. He scored a dream goal in the Champions League against PSV and generally showed great performances – even if the scorer points are still missing. Juventus has extended his contract until 2029 and sees him as a key player for the coming years.”
Yıldız is not the only big talent who gets a lot of playing time under Motta: The 21-year-old full-back Nicolò Savona and the 20-year-old winger Samuel Mbangula were originally planned for the third division team, but have now established themselves in the professional squad. They increased by a whopping 3,400 and 3,100 percent to 7.5 million and 8 million euros, respectively. “Mbangula in particular is the big surprise at Juventus,” says Dietl. “Because Nico González and Francisco Conceição were only signed in the final days of the transfer window, Motta had to improvise and went for the young Belgian, even though he struggled with injuries while playing for the U23s last season. Mbangula took advantage of the opportunity and was directly involved in three goals in his first two games. He impresses with his speed and his ability to overcome opponents in small spaces.”

Retegui joins Atalanta: Biggest increase in market value in Italy
However, the biggest plus from the update will go to neither Yıldız nor Pulisic, but to the Italian national striker Mateo Retegui, who will increase by 12 million to 28 million euros – an increase of 75 percent. “After a bad European Championship, many were surprised when Atalanta transferred 22 million euros in exclusive bonuses to Genoa,” explains Dietl. “But La Dea reacted quickly after Gianluca Scamacca’s injury and never doubted Retegui’s qualities. They were right, once again: the investment paid off, as Retegui scored seven goals in seven games, as many as in the entire last season. The move also appears to have impacted his performances in Squadra Azzurra, where he scored two goals and provided an assist in the last four games.”
The biggest increase in squad value, ahead of Juventus and Atalanta (+20.5 million), was achieved by newly promoted Parma Calcio 1913, which rose by 20.6 million to 125.1 million euros. This is mainly due to the young regular players of the Serie B champions, who have so far mastered the jump to Serie A very well and who have high transfer potential: director and Olympic champion Adrián Bernabé (+3 million), the Romanian national player Dennis Man (+5 million) and the French striker Ange-Yoan Bonny (+7 million) are now all valued at 15 million euros. In addition, the 22-year-old Japanese national goalkeeper Zion Suzuki increases by 4.5 million to 7 million euros.
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
