The second half of the Jupiler Pro League has begun and KRC Genk leads the table ahead of champions FC Brugge. The top two teams are also the big winners of Transfermarkt’s market value update in December, which saw the Belgian league increase its total value by more than €50 million. There are two new faces at the top of the market value ranking; one professional will be particularly familiar to German football fans.

All new market values at a glance!

Andreas Skov Olsen (24) from FC Brugge, the most valuable player in the league to date, will be devalued by 2 million euros and falls to 16 million euros. He cannot maintain his status, his teammates Christos Tzolis (22) and Joel Ordóñez (20) overtake the Danish international. Tzolis went from 12 million to 18 million euros, as did Ordóñez, who doubled his previous market value of 9 million.

“Tzolis shows his added value in every game, whether in the Jupiler Pro League, in the Champions League or with the Greek national team,” explains Area Manager Belgium Bart Tamsyn and continues: “The fact that Ordóñez also achieves this value may surprise most people, but if you look a little deeper into the market, you can see that it has some interested parties. Based on the information we have, we thought it was realistic for him to move to a top Premier League club in January for at least €25 million. In this respect, this increase is a logical reaction to this.”

After six significant upgrades, Bruges’ squad value increased by 15.7 million euros and cemented their position as the most valuable team with 165.3 million euros. After an increase of 14.1 million to 109.4 million euros, Genk moves behind RSC Anderlecht, whose squad is valued at 111.3 million euros.

“As we have been used to for years, Genk offers fresh and attacking football based on a solid midfield and young talent. Tolu Arokodare (24) came to Limburg almost two years ago with a market value of 2.2 million euros and is now at 9 million euros. The situation is similar with Zakaria El Ouahdi (22), who now has a market value of 10 million euros and who many Belgian football fans hope will choose the Belgian national team. Genk also has the luxury of being able to swap players in different positions without much loss of quality and therefore has one of the most valuable substitute benches.”

Mario Stroeykens (20) is the big winner at Anderlecht, who are currently in third place in the table. The attacking midfielder climbs by 4 million to 14 million euros. “Since David Hubert took over command at RSC Anderlecht, he has let Stroeykens play in his usual position. Stroeykens is also facing a transfer, but perhaps not until the summer. Stroeykens is undisputedly the pace setter at the moment, but Kasper Dolberg (27) is also benefiting from it. Thanks to the connection with Stroeykens, the Dane doesn’t have to fall back as much and appears more dangerous in front of goal.” The attacker’s market value increases from 10 million to 13 million euros.

36-year-old Chery triples market value – three Germans adjusted

A special feature is Tjaronn Chery (36) from Royal Antwerp, who, despite his age, can more than triple his market value of 150,000 euros. “The exceptions prove the rule. In fact, a player his age wouldn’t normally get an upgrade. But the most important thing is still what happens on the field. Chery is currently having its best season in years, perhaps even the best of its career, and deserves this recognition,” explains Tamsyn.

Seven German professionals are under contract in the Jupiler Pro League, including Dennis Eckert Ayensa (27) and Paris Brunner (18). The market values of three legionnaires have been adjusted. While the Mechelen duo Patrick Pflücke (28) and Lion Lauberbach (26) rose from 1.6 million to 1.8 million or 650,000 to 800,000 euros, Beerschot’s Florian Krüger (25) has a minus from 200,000 to 400,000 accept euros.

The total value of the Jupiler Pro League currently stands at 973.3 million euros and if there are not too many departures in January, there is a real chance that the Belgian league will exceed the billion mark in the spring for the second time in its history . The Jupiler Pro League remains one of the ten most valuable leagues in Europe.

This is how transfer market market values work

The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.

The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
