Clear leader in the table

Premier League leaders Liverpool FC ended the 2024 football year with a masterful performance. In London, coach Arne Slot’s Reds clearly won 5-0 against hosts West Ham United on Sunday evening, where national striker Niclas Füllkrug came on as a substitute at half-time.
But there was nothing the former Bundesliga professional could do: At this point, Liverpool was already leading 3-0 after goals from Luis Díaz (30th), Cody Gakpo (40th) and the once again outstanding Mohamed Salah (44th). Slot’s team never left any doubt about their goal of spending the turn of the year as far away as possible in second place in the table. Trent Alexander-Arnold (54th) and substitute Diogo Jota (84th) made things even clearer at the London Stadium.
For West Ham, who had recently fought their way out of the crisis, the game was a step backwards. With 23 points, the actually ambitious Hammers are in 13th place. Liverpool (45 points), on the other hand, is currently eight points ahead of surprise second-placed Nottingham Forest. Chelsea (35) and Arsenal (36) can still overtake them on Monday and Wednesday respectively. The Reds even have a game in hand: the derby against Everton was canceled at the beginning of December due to a storm warning. It is still unclear when it will be rescheduled.
