After the exemption from Marco Rose, RB Leipzig found a successor on Sunday, who will be sitting on the bench at the Cup semi-final against VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday. Zsolt Löw takes over the tasks temporarily until the end of the season. “Sky” had previously reported discussions.
The 45-year-old Löw worked as an assistant coach of Ralph Hasenhüttl (83 games) and Ralf Rangnick (36 games) at the Red Bulls from 2015 to 2018. Then he went alongside Thomas Tuchel to Paris Saint-Germain, FC Chelsea and FC Bayern Munich. He does not yet have experience as a head coach.

Löw has long been a candidate for the role of the main person responsible for a large club. So he was traded at VfB Stuttgart and SC Freiburg in 2019, in 2020 at TSG Hoffenheim and again in Stuttgart in 2022. When Tuchel was introduced to the English national team without Löw in October, this was considered a sign that he wanted to strive for his own career as head coach. “Our whole focus is on the maximum of nine remaining games this season. We still have the opportunity to achieve our goals in two competitions. We will do everything we can to achieve the cup final in Berlin and get the maximum out of the rest of the Bundesliga season,” he said about his new task.
Leipzig separated from Rose on Sunday after the 0-1 defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach (for the news). 42 points after 27 match days are the worst yield in the Bundesliga since the promotion in 2016. In addition, the KO phase in the Champions League was clearly missed with only three points from eight games.
