Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was one of several teammates past and present to congratulate Italy captain Gigio Donnarumma for his heroics during Paris Saint-Germain’s penalty shoot-out victory over Liverpool in the Champions League on Monday, using a bit of Neapolitan dialect in a message to his colleague on social media.
Donnarumma was the hero on the night for PSG as they qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals with a victory on penalties against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening. The tie was level at 1-1 over the two legs before the former Milan stopper kept out spot kicks from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones to send PSG through.
“Magnifique” was the phrase the 26-year-old used to describe PSG’s triumph at Anfield, in an Instagram post which has drawn thousands of messages from friends, teammates and supporters.

Among those to send messages of congratulations was former Napoli winger Kvaratskhelia, who joined the Parisian outfit for a fee in excess of €70m during the January transfer window. He commented: “troppp forttt fratmmmm”, or “too strong, my brother”.
PSG teammates Marquinhos and Milan Skriniar commented: “I love you,” and “Well done brother,” respectively.
