Since Cole Palmer failed to do the new England coach Thomas Tuchel due to a thigh injury for the first caps, Nottingham Forest’s playmaker Morgan Gibs-White was nominated. “He called me and said, ‘Are you still angry with me or do you want to come to us and train tomorrow?'”, The 25-year-old is quoted by the “Guardian”, who also praised Tuchel’s approach.
“Of course I was angry and a bit disappointed,” admitted Gibbs-White. “I said to him: ‘I have the feeling that I have done enough to be nominated when you consider the form we were in. But of course you are the coach, you will make the decisions and I totally respect that.'” With five goals and seven templates in 25 prime-league games, he is one of the service providers of the surprise team from Nottingham. In the most recent market value update of the Premier League, he received an upgrade from 10 million to 50 million euros.
Gibbs-White not only competes with Palmer, who remains for further investigations at Chelsea to position the position in the national team. With Jude Bellingham, Morgan Rogers, Eberechi Eze and Phil Foden there are four other candidates for the offensive midfield in Tuchel’s first England squad. “I respected his decision because the level of the players is particularly high,” Gibbs-White commented on his original non-nomination.
At a young age, Gibbs-White was considered an English hope for young people because he was able to win some titles with the junior national teams. In 2017 he became at the side of Foden and Jadon Sancho U17 world champion, in 2023 he won the U21 European Championship. In September 2024, he made his debut for the Three Lions 2-0 against Ireland under interim coach Lee Carsley. So far he has been on two caps.
Gibbs white over Tuchel: “A really loose type”
Tuchel, who is repeatedly said to be not an easy character, got a lot of praise from Gibbs-White. “Shortly after he got the job, he was in contact with the majority of the players. He is a really loose guy, it’s nice to speak to him and he just says things like he comes to watch everyone play.” Again and again the 51-year-old was seen in stadiums to watch his professionals. “I have the feeling that it was important for him to try to build this bond with the players because he is used to club football, so he is used to spending the time with the players every day.”
Since England took first place in Nations League B and has risen, the world champion from 1966 starts the World Cup qualification on Friday. Tuchel celebrates his debut in Wembley against Albania, on Monday Latvia is guest in London. The other opponents on the way to the 2026 tournament are Andorra and Serbia. With a squad value of 1.34 billion euros, England is the world’s most valuable national team and high -rise favorite in the group. Serbia (248 million), Albania (98 million), Latvia (10 million) and Andorra (3.6 million) come together to a little more than a quarter of the English team.
