In January, Dante Vanzeir moved back to Belgium after two years in the North American professional league Major League Soccer. With Kaa Gent, the 26 -year -old center forward is now playing for international places as a regular in the Jupiler Pro League championship round. A transfer to Germany has also been discussed in recent years. He confirmed that he still has this step in the head in an interview with Transfermarkt.be.
“In addition to the interest of Kaa Gent and the RSC Anderlecht, there was also contact to Germany this winter,” says Vanzeir. The attacker, who completed an international match for Belgium in 2021, did not provide any information. According to the transfer market information, there was concrete interest from SC Freiburg and FC Augsburg. A year earlier, FC Schalke under Karel Geraerts was on Vanzeir.
“I personally think the Bundesliga is a great league to present itself,” says the right foot, who has contributed four goals and a template in eleven games since moving to Ghent. “I would like to play there at some point in the future, but at the moment my focus is of course on Kaa Gent. I am no longer the youngest, but also not the oldest, so I am still at an age when I can take a big step after Ghent. We will see who will be.”
Vanzeir’s newly signed contract runs until 2028, then he would be 30 years old. And the best phase of his career is a little ago. At Union Saint-Gilloise, Vanzeir scored 48 goals and 21 templates in 91 games between 2020 and 2023 and was elected as a player of the season when promotion from the 2nd division in 2021.
