Major League Soccer will soon have a new record purchase: Kévin Denkey will leave Cercle Bruges for FC Cincinnati in January. Belgian media reports coincide with transfer market information. Accordingly, a basic transfer fee of 15.3 million euros is due, which can increase to up to 16.6 million euros through bonuses. The people from Bruges also secure a resale share of ten percent. The final signatures should take place promptly.

The ranking of the most expensive MLS signings is currently led by the two Argentinians Thiago Almada (23) and Gonzalo Martínez (31), for whom Atlanta United FC once transferred 14.5 million euros each. The Five Stripes dominate the top places, with only Cincinnati’s previous record purchase Brenner (24) with 11.8 million euros in the top six.

Denkey moved from Nîmes Olympique to Bruges in January 2021 for 2 million euros, and last season he experienced an explosion in performance: with 27 goals in 38 games, he became the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League. In the current season, Denkey is the best scorer under the age of 23 in the top 10 leagues with eleven goals and six assists in 23 appearances across all competitions.

The striker was already in the USA the weekend before last to complete the medical check and to watch Cincinnati’s playoff game against New York City FC (5:6 n. E.). For this reason, he missed Cercle’s home game against RSC Anderlecht, which was also completely botched 0-5. It is all the more understandable that Cercle would have liked to have used the Togolese international until the winter break, but Cincinnati wanted to avert that. According to reports, thanks to a compromise, Denkey will still be able to play part of the remaining ten games this year.
