The agent of Juventus full-back and Italy international Andrea Cambiaso has revealed that the interest from Manchester City during the January transfer window ‘was true’ and that Pep Guardiola ‘wanted him’.
Giovanni Bia, who represents Cambiaso as well as a number of other young Italian talents, was a guest on Radio Goal on Kiss Kiss Napoli on Thursday, where he discussed a number of topics including the interest in his client on the January transfer market.
There had been reports over the last month that City were considering a bid in the region of €65m for the versatile Bianconeri defender.
During his radio appearance on Thursday, Bia revealed that the reports in the Italian press ‘were true’.
“Juventus will explain what happened,” he began.
“I’ll tell you that what came out in the newspapers in relation to the negotiations is all true. It’s true that Guardiola wanted him,” Cambiaso’s agent revealed, reported via Tuttosport.
City did not hold back in January, spending well over €200m on Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt, Nico Gonzalez from Porto, Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras.
And while Cambiaso did not end up at the Etihad, there are still reports that City could come back in with an official bid during the summer transfer window.
