Hopes for an agreement with Kimmich

How long will Florian Wirtz stay at Bayer 04 Leverkusen and, more importantly, where will he go if he leaves? FC Bayern has been one of the big favorites since the 21-year-old’s breakthrough, although there doesn’t seem to be any concrete lead yet. When asked about the most valuable German player along with Jamal Musiala, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen also gave his opinion on a possible transfer.
In an interview with the “Abendblatt”, the 57-year-old said about Wirtz: “It must always be in FC Bayern’s interest to have the best German players with them.” A reference to an earlier statement by Uli Hoeneß, which Dreesen also commented on . It also applies to the former Bayern boss “that he always said that FC Bayern had to act economically sensibly. And he wouldn’t agree with us if we didn’t respect both of his cornerstones.”
Wirtz is under contract with the Werkself until 2027, and the transfer fee is likely to be a new Munich club record. This is currently held by Harry Kane, who cost 95 million euros when he moved in the summer of 2023. It is questionable whether there are enough financial resources to set a new record, especially because a number of top performers’ contracts are to be extended.
Dreesen on FC Bayern Poker with Kimmich: “Feels comfortable in Munich”
Discussions with Musiala and Leroy Sané (28) are currently in full swing, and these are expected to start soon with Joshua Kimmich (29): “He feels comfortable in Munich and is a very important player in this team. He shows his class not only with us, but also with the national team. We have already said publicly that we now want to quickly begin discussions with him about a contract extension. I would like him to continue to be one of the cornerstones of the team.”
