Goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka has found a new club around three months after his contract with Werder Bremen ended. The 32-year-old Czech was introduced on Monday as a new signing at Greek champions PAOK Thessaloniki. Pavlenka signed a contract until the end of the season with the option of another year.

The new keeper was given the number one shirt, but it can be assumed that he will only be the backup for regular Dominik Kotarski (24). The Croatian international is placed at PAOK and was recently one of the winners in the Greek market value update. The club was forced to add more between the posts because substitute keeper Antonis Tsiftsis (25) is likely to be out for the long term.

Pavlenka was primarily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the spring, but this did not materialize. He lost his regular place at Werder in autumn 2023 to Michael Zetterer (29) after an adductor injury. He could no longer be pushed aside by strong performances. Pavlenka left Werder after seven years.
