There are major concerns about Michail Antonio (34) at West Ham United. It can be “confirmed that striker Michail Antonio was involved in a traffic accident today,” the Premier League club said briefly on Saturday. The Hammers initially did not provide any details, but announced “an update in due course.”
This followed almost an hour later. Antonio is in a stable condition, conscious and able to communicate. He is being closely monitored in a hospital in central London. “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Mikhail, his family and his friends at this time,” it said previously.
Another update followed on Sunday. The club confirmed that Antonio underwent successful surgery for a lower extremity fracture. “Mikhail will continue to be monitored in the hospital in the coming days,” it said.
There are images circulating on social media of a smashed Ferrari that is said to be associated with the accident, but this has not been confirmed. The club will not make any further comments for the time being, but will provide information in due course, it said. The attacker has been playing for the Londoners since 2015. So far, Antonio has scored 83 goals in 322 games for West Ham.

According to media reports, this is not the first time that Antonio has been involved in an accident. At Christmas 2019, dressed as a snowman, he crashed his luxury car into a front garden. According to his own statements, he was driving a little too fast on a slippery road. West Ham’s next game, where DFB striker Niclas Füllkrug (31) also plays, is scheduled for Monday evening at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
