Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini argued with Sky Sport Italia pundit Giancarlo Marocchi, who had claimed that La Dea\u2019s downfall began when the coach said he\u2019d not extend his contract: \u2018It\u2019s nonsense.\u2019<\/p>\n

Gasperini argued with former Juventus and Bologna midfielder Marocchi, now working as a Sky Sport Italia pundit, after a 1-0 home defeat against Lazio.<\/p>\n

Atalanta have now lost three consecutive league matches, going from potential title contenders to seeing their Champions League spot under threat.<\/p>\n

They are also without a home victory in Serie A since December 2022.<\/p>\n

    Gasperini said a few weeks ago that he would not extend his Atalanta contract beyond 2026 and even left the door open for a summer exit.<\/p>\n

    Marocchi argued tonight that the Atalanta downfall began after Gasperini\u2019s claims about his future, but the Italian tactician strongly disagreed.<\/p>\n

    \u201cThis is nonsense,\u201d Gasp replied via Corriere dello Sport.<\/p>\n

    \u201cYou guys focus too much on results, and after those words, we won 5-0 against Empoli and 4-0 against Juventus.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Marocchi, however, hit back: \u201cWe don\u2019t look at the results here, and it\u2019s clear that the victory over Juventus was just an illusion.<\/p>\n

    Gasp had the last word in the dispute and concluded by saying, \u201cThis is just an excuse that distracts from what really matters\u2014the pitch and the game of football.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Atalanta sit third in the Serie A table, but are now involved in the race for a Champions League spot with five other clubs.<\/p>\n
