Simone Inzaghi hit back at the Inter doubters after a 2-0 victory away to Atalanta, referring repeatedly to the \u2018debates on television and in the media. This is sport.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Nerazzurri have struggled to win the head-to-head clashes so far this season, but broke that drought with a 2-0 result in Bergamo.<\/p>\n

Carlos Augusto\u2019s free header on a Hakan Calhanoglu corner kick opened the scoring, followed by Lautaro Martinez bending back Marco Carnesecchi\u2019s gloves, while both Ederson and Alessandro Bastoni were sent off.<\/p>\n

Inzaghi was spotted repeatedly telling his players to not sit too deep, as he wanted to take the game to Atalanta.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a coach, I am very satisfied with the performance even more than the result,\u201d Inzaghi told DAZN.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe came to Bergamo with character, we could\u2019ve won it in the first half, we hit the woodwork, Lautaro Martinez had a goal disallowed that was probably legal, and the Frattesi chance.<\/p>\n

\u201cAtalanta are in great form, they had scored 63 goals just like Inter and we allowed them practically nothing. These lads deserve congratulations, because we were missing a lot of players, I had 6-7 who were getting treatment this morning too, but with this attitude we can do great things.\u201d<\/p>\n

This was Inter\u2019s eighth consecutive victory against Atalanta in all competition, but above all with Napoli held 0-0 by Venezia this afternoon, it means they go three points clear at the top of the Serie A table.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe read lots of things over the last few weeks, but when you see performances like this, you realise the squad has great determination. We are at the end of a run of seemingly unending games, there are more after the break for international duty, but I cannot ask these lads for more,\u201d added Inzaghi.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgainst Atalanta you need to be aggressive, determined and also have technical quality in your passing. These are always fascinating games, I thought it was played at a high tempo with two open and attacking sides who deserve to be at the top of the table.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is a remarkable achievement considering Inter are the only Italian side still in three tournaments, having booked a Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich and a two-legged Coppa Italia semi-final with rivals Milan.<\/p>\n

As Inzaghi has pointed out before, technically they\u2019re up for the Quadruple, including the Club World Cup in June.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to play as many games as possible. We know that it is also possible Inter might not win anything, we hear the debates on television and in the media, this is sport. We played two exhilarating Champions League games with Feyenoord, Monza caused us a lot of problems, then this was a great performance and in my view a deserved victory against a strong Atalanta side.\u201d<\/p>\n

Does that mean he is irritated by the doubters around this Inter side?<\/p>\n

\u201cI listen to what everyone says, but I am the coach, the players, club and president all know what this sport is like, so we are just trying to take it one game at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was some concern for Denzel Dumfries, who went off clutching his thigh and was spotted with an ice pack strapped to his leg.<\/p>\n

\u201cDumfries had a muscular issue, the flexor was hardened a little, he didn\u2019t seem too bad, as he had even asked me to wait, not realising I\u2019d already substituted him,\u201d concluded Inzaghi.<\/p>\n
