Claudio Ranieri insists Paulo Dybala will be a \u2018key player\u2019 for Roma also in 2025-26 and warns Artem Dovbyk: \u2018He has to believe in us.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Giallorossi host Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday after Thursday\u2019s Europa League elimination at the hands of Athletic Club.<\/p>\n

Ranieri started his pre-match press conference by saying that Mats Hummels\u2019 red card in Bilbao was \u201charsh,\u201d but then he went on to discuss<\/span>\u00a0the upcoming league match and the players\u2019 form.<\/p>\n

Ranieri answered a couple of questions about Dovbyk, who was subbed off in the second half against Athletic Club.<\/p>\n

\u201cI substituted him when I thought it was the right time. They were attacking too much,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Soul\u00e9, I wanted more structure and dynamism. I expect a lot from him [Dovbyk], but he needs to react. He has to make a decision, he needs to show what kind of player he is. I believe in him, but he has to believe in us too. It\u2019s a give-and-take.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ranieri was asked to clarify what \u201cbelieve in us\u201d means.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have an aggressive and determined playing style,\u201d the coach explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told him: \u2018You focus on scoring goals, and I\u2019ll focus on the performance. If you put in a good performance and don\u2019t score, I can accept that. But if you don\u2019t perform and don\u2019t score, then I start thinking.\u2019 That\u2019s all. I ask for performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know they can\u2019t always be at 100%, but if you don\u2019t give me either performance or goals, you leave me with a bitter taste. He has to fight like everyone else. He hasn\u2019t given up, or at least, I don\u2019t want to believe that. If he gives up, I have 25 others who want to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ranieri is under contract until the end of the season and will be involved in deciding his successor for 2025-26.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you really think I would tell you if there was something? It seems premature to me,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n

\u201cWait until the end of the season, and you\u2019ll find out. The president will decide. I haven\u2019t changed my mind. The focus must be on these ten matches for the fans and the club. Five games at home, five away. Let\u2019s say six and five, because against Lazio, we don\u2019t have to travel. We have to play these ten games as if they were life or death and collect the points we deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Ranieri had a suggestion for his possible successor, regarding Dybala.<\/p>\n

\u201cDybala is currently not at 100%. For me, he is a key player for next season,\u201d the coach said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith him, Roma is a different team, and I\u2019ve said it many times. When Dybala plays and is in good shape, he\u2019s worth the price of admission. He does things others don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ranieri added that Dybala would join the Argentina national team despite not being fully fit.<\/p>\n
