Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron defined his former teammate Sergio Concei\u00e7\u00e3o as \u2018a man of strong principles\u2019 and \u2018made of steel\u2019, and he expects him the new Milan manager to avoid \u2018unnecessary talk\u2019 and immediately start working to revive what is a difficult campaign for the Rossoneri.<\/p>\n

Veron and Concei\u00e7\u00e3o spent two seasons together at Lazio, also helping the Biancocelesti to win the Serie A title in 2000 under coach Sven Goran Eriksson, and the former Argentina international believes the coach retained the resolute style he already had in his playing days, as he \u2018believes in rules and follows them\u2019.<\/p>\n

Concei\u00e7\u00e3o joined the Rossoneri after a lengthy experience at Porto, which according to Veron made him \u2018ready for any environment\u2019, including a struggling side that he is likely to approach with few and \u2018clear\u2019 words to \u2018avoid misunderstandings\u2019.<\/p>\n

Veron: Concei\u00e7\u00e3o not \u2018afraid of anything\u2019 and will give Milan \u2018certainties\u2019<\/h2>\n

\u201cSergio is someone you can always count on,\u201d Veron said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would close my eyes and know I\u2019d find him on the right wing, ready to receive my pass. And then he\u2019s stubborn, gritty, and never gives up\u2014he wanted to win even the small-sided games in training. I\u2019d describe him as an\u00a0hombre vertical<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSergio isn\u2019t afraid of anything. He\u2019s ready to take on the entire world to achieve his goal. His character isn\u2019t just strong; it\u2019s made of steel.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019ll be fazed by the situation he finds at Milanello. He spent seven years on Porto\u2019s bench, a club that knows all about tension and pressure. And at Porto, he won\u2014a lot. I believe he\u2019s become the most successful coach in the club\u2019s history, which means he\u2019s ready for any environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I know him well, he\u2019ll arrive, hold a meeting with the team, and explain what needs to be done and what he expects. Few words, all very clear, to avoid misunderstandings. Then straight to the field to work, no unnecessary talk.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a man of strong principles. He believes in rules, follows them, and never deviates.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never been coached by him, of course, but I imagine he\u2019s the same on the bench. He has a method, he applies it, and I believe he demands his players give everything on the pitch.\u201d<\/p>\n

Concerning Concei\u00e7\u00e3o\u2019s playing style, the former Inter player noted that he seems to prefer \u2018vertical football\u2019, adding that he also had the chance to learn some valuable lessons from Eriksson.<\/p>\n

\u201cI watched several matches on TV, especially in the Champions League,\u201d the ex-midfielder continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cSergio seems to me like an old-school coach, which I prefer. Vertical football, little tiki-taka,<\/em> and above all, the fundamental principle: the players create the game on the pitch, not the coach on the drawing board. He learned that from Eriksson, and we all owe him that lesson.<\/p>\n

\u201cSergio often uses the 4-4-2 formation. He likes wingers who push forward and track back, just like he used to, and in midfield, he wants a thinking man. But I\u2019m the president of Estudiantes here in Buenos Aires, so I can\u2019t move\u2026 Jokes aside, his teams are physical, focus heavily on pressing, and rely on speed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 49-year-old believes that the repeated changes of formation under Fonseca may have somehow affected their consistency, which is why he thinks that giving \u2018some certainties\u2019 to his new players will be the first thing he\u2019ll try to do in his opening weeks at the helm.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019ll try to give the team some certainties,\u201d Veron said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe structure of the group on the pitch must always be the same\u2014at least, that\u2019s my view. This means having a base lineup to work on.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce things are on the right track, you can think about making changes to give someone a rest, rotate players ahead of an important fixture, and so on. But constantly changing the formation doesn\u2019t make sense, in my opinion\u2014it ends up with players not knowing each other perfectly.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at Inter with my friend Simone Inzaghi: the starting team is clear, and the results are there for all to see, both in Italy and Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n
