Former Italy players Paolo Di Canio and Alessandro Costacurta argued over Thiago Motta\u2019s Juventus during a TV show on Sunday: \u2018Is it a joke?\u2019<\/p>\n

Juventus have collected three consecutive 0-0 draws, seeing their coach Motta be compared to his predecessor Massimiliano Allegri. The latter had earned ten points in the opening five Serie A games last season, while the Bianconeri have nine now.<\/p>\n

The Serie A giants haven\u2019t conceded yet this season, but former Lazio, Juventus, and West Ham striker Di Canio expected a better attacking production.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is all new at the beginning, but we are now praising the defence. It reminds me of something,\u201d he told Sky Sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must be serious. We expected something more. Otherwise, it makes no sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Allegri was criticised for his defensive playing style, but Motta\u2019s results haven\u2019t been too different.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny new coach first develops the defence and then the other. Come on. I don\u2019t know what you expected,\u201d replied Costacurta.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thing a new coach does is organise the defence.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a different organisation, but the results are the same,\u201d Di Canio hit back.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are praising the defensive phase. I am not saying it\u2019s not okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat did you expect? Six goals per game? Let\u2019s talk about serious things; we are not at a bar,\u201d replied Costacurta.<\/p>\n

The argument continued with Di Canio insisting that Juventus should do more in the final third.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t even start with that! We saw the stats: less than one shot on target per game,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you expect less? Is it a joke? This is not a bar; this is a serious thing. I didn\u2019t expect five goals per game, but not even half a shot on target in five games.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Costacurta concluded that Juventus\u2019 struggles are understandable and suggested that the Bianconeri will improve with time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI expected some normal difficulties as there was a new coach,\u201d said the ex-defender.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best coach I\u2019ve ever had [Arrigo Sacchi] could have been sacked after two months because he wanted to do certain things. It happens!\u201d<\/p>\n

Juventus\u2019 next Serie A match is away at Genoa this coming Saturday.<\/p>\n
