Real Madrid’s midfield drouting Luka Modric apparently gets in with the English second division club Swansea City. According to the matching media reports, the Croatian international is supposed to acquire a minority stake in the Championship club that an agreement was made. Nothing has been known about the amount of his investment and precise details.

However, his commitment should have no influence on his player career, it is said. The contract of the 39 -year -old captain at the Madrilenen expires this summer – as well as two other professionals. Modric wants to continue according to the media and hopes for a new contract with Real, as reported, among other things, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. With a market value of 5 million euros, it is the world’s most valuable 39 -year -old footballer.

At the club from South Wales, currently twelfth in the table, Modric, six-time Champions League winner and world footballer from 2018, is to take on a role behind the scenes.

Club participations of footballers: growing trend

Modric’s decision to invest in Swansea reflects a growing trend among top footballers. Among other things, his teammates Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Junior have invested in football clubs. Mbappé is a majority owner of SM Caen in the French Ligue 2, and last year he and his company for rumored 20 million euros took over around 80 percent of the shares.

The Brazilian Vinicius Junior, reportedly, rose in February at the Portuguese second division club FC Alverca. He is said to have taken over almost 80 percent of the shares in the club and, together with a group of Brazilian and Spanish investors, paid EUR 8 million.

Ex-professionals have also invested in football clubs beforehand, such as England’s former captain David Beckham (Inter Miami), Mbappés national team colleague N’Golo Kanté (Royal Excelsior Virton) as well as Spanish ex-national players Gerard Piqué (FC Andorra) and David Villa (Racing Benidorm and Queensboro FC).
