With a market value of 12 million euros, Merlin Röhl is one of the most valuable professionals at SC Freiburg. And despite a season characterized by setbacks, the 22 -year -old midfielder sparked interest from England. As the “kicker” reports, Röhl is located on the radar of FC Everton. According to the magazine, the Toffees have even exchanged themselves with the Berlin -born and its management. Everton should not be the only applicant.
According to reports, it is not excluded that the Freiburg can achieve new record revenues when selling Röhl. The previous record comes from Kevin Schade (23), which FC Brentford cost 25 million euros two years ago after previous loan. Because the right foot, which came from Ingolstadt in 2022 for EUR 2.9 million, only extended its contract in September 2024, Everton should in vain to hope for a lower transfer – especially since those responsible for the Breisgauers would know about the potential value of their talent.
Röhl only reaches 917 minutes this season (one template), spread over 17 missions. In the first half of the season, he had to expose for weeks because of a syndesmose tape tear, most recently he was stopped by television problems and an infection.
“SC fan” writes in the Freiburg TM forum: “I would not hand over Röhl in summer, because with Doan a difference and we hardly have players with one-on-one quality in the squad. He has a lot to fight with injuries this season and if he plays, he has little impact. (…) But I think he is not optimally used this year. Qualities in balls and intensity (with and against the ball).
“SC fan” continues: “But if one comes for the 10 in the summer and Röhl can play again on the 8, I believe in a real performance jump. If he calls up his potential, you cannot actually replace the quality as a SC (just like with Doan). Then as a SC you would be stupid if you give up such a player without pressure (only extended the contract).”
The sports club also thinks of selling offensive players Ritsu Doan (26). “He is doing everything possible to appear in even more notebooks,” sports director Klemens Hartenbach was most recently quoted by the “kicker”. “Ritsu is super important for us and we try everything that it stays with us. There are also good arguments for staying.” But if you can speak of a perfect time for a farewell, it is probably the coming summer – of course if the offer is right. “
Doan changed from PSV Eindhoven to Freiburg in 2022 for 8.5 million euros and has increased its market value since then from 8 million to EUR 22 million.
