Transfer market has adapted the market values of 141 players in the first Mexican league. At the top there are some changes. After his transfer from Atlanta United to Cruz Azul, Greek striker Georgios Giakoumakis with a market value of 9 million euros in the meantime became the most valuable player in the Liga MX. After the update, Giakoumakis is no longer at the forefront, since its value is reduced to EUR 7.5 million by EUR 1.5 million.
“Giakoumakis became the most valuable player in the country after he has been hired from the MLS, but now, at the age of 30, he still has to establish himself in the attack by Cruz Azul, where the competition is getting tougher,” explains Osvaldo González Camacho, Transfermarkt Area Manager in Mexico. Giakoumakis falls in the ranking of the most valuable player from the top 3 because Álvaro Fidalgo from CF América (+500,000 to 8.5 million), Luis Malagón (+1 million to 8 million) and Alexis Vega from Toluca (+2.5 million to 8 million) overtake the offensive man.
Giakoumakis is not the only top -class player whose market value drops significantly. With Sergio Canales (-500,000 to 6.5 million), Lucas Ocampos (-1 million to 6.5 million) and Sergio Ramos (-300,000 to 1.5 million), the top stars from CF Monterrey with glorious European past also have to accept a minus as part of this update. The Los Rayados trained by ex-Bavaria defender Martin Demichelis are stuck in the middle of the table and were thrown by the Vancouver Whitecaps from the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Market value update in league MX: ups and downs in US national players
A new in the top 10 is offensive player Álex Zendendjas. After contributing five goals and five assists for CF América in Clausura, its market value is raised from 5 million to EUR 7 million. “He revived his career at América, and I have no doubt that because of his achievements he will eventually have a greater importance for the US national team,” says TM expert Camacho.
However, one of Zendejas’ USMNT teammate tends in the other direction. “After the failed project with coach óscar García, Cade Cowell could no longer get the time he had in earlier seasons, which led to losing his place in the US national team,” says Camacho about the Chivas striker. “He is still young and has the potential to develop further. If Chivas does not allow him this season, I would not surprise me if he deals with a departure, probably back to the MLS.” Because of Cowell’s difficulties, its market value falls from 5 million to EUR 4 million.
