Germany are expected to start veteran goalkeeper Oliver Baumann for the Nations League quarter-final against Italy.

The first leg is at San Siro on Thursday at 19.45 GMT, with the decider in Dortmund on Sunday evening.

Their first choice Marc-Andre ter Stegen is currently out of action with a torn tendon, so Germany have called up Baumann, Alexander Nubel of VfB Stuttgart and Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega.

According to Sky Sports Deutschland and Bild, they are set to give the gloves to Baumann rather than Nubel.

This will also be confirmed by handing him the Number 1 jersey for the full quarter-final squad.

The 34-year-old only has two senior caps for Germany, the 1-0 victory over the Netherlands on October 14, 2024 and the 7-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 16.

Baumann was out of action for a month with a foot injury in January and February, only returning for three games from March 1.
