With 45 points after 26 game days, the 1st FSV Mainz 05 plays the best Bundesliga season in its history. The top scorer of the zero five, Jonathan Burkardt, is also on record hunt. The 24-year-old has scored 15 goals so far, with which he reached the club-internal record in the Bundesliga and, with Shinji Okazaki and André Schürrle, in the same way in the best goal yield. He had secured first place in the ranking of the Bundesliga record goal scorers of the Rheinhessen a few weeks ago.
In the 2010/11 season, Schürrle was the first Mainz to crack the 15 goal mark, Okazaki added in 2013/14. Burkardt displaced with his 1-0 on Saturday against Freiburg (2: 2) Jean-Philippe Mateta from the top 3. The attacker, who had repeatedly struggled with injuries in the past, but was spared longer failures this season, is one of the key factors for the successful season. Some time ago, his trainer Bo Henriksen described the attacker as “the symbolic figure for a culture of profit” among the Mainz. “Because he always believes to win, no matter what was before. And because he not only expresses this, but also acts afterwards, ”says the Dane. This underlines the TM statistics “GameWinner”: Only Harry Kane scored as many winning goal in 2024/25 as Burkardt.
Top goal scorers per Bundesliga club: Lewandowski’s value protrudes
With a value of 15 goals, the Mainzers occupy one of the rear places compared to all Bundesliga clubs. Only in the 1st FC Heidenheim and Holstein Kiel, which have recently been part of the league, are the yields even less with Tim Kleindienst’s twelve goals from the last season as well as Phil Harres’ and Shuto Machinos each.
At the top, FC Bayern and Robert Lewandowski are enthroned with its record brand of 41 goals. In 2020/21, the Pole had surpassed the value of the legendary Gerd Müller, which had been in existence since 1972, whose 40 goals were considered unreachable for a long time. Lothar Emmerich and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Borussia Dortmund with 31 goals and Jupp Heynckes for Gladbach follow with a clear distance.
In the 1973/74 season, the 79-year-old held one of the longest valid top values, only the records of VfL Bochum, FC St. Pauli and that of Emmerich also date from the past century. The latest best performances, the duo from Liga newcomer Kiel excluded, come from Serhou Guirassy (28 goals) for VfB Stuttgart, Ermedin Demirovic (15) for FC Augsburg and from the already mentioned small service for the FCH from last season. Burkardt could take care of the next.
