Inter have confirmed that midfielder Piotr Zielinski is set for a spell on the sidelines after learning the results of his medical tests from the injury he picked up during the 3-2 Serie A win over Monza on Saturday.

The Poland international was introduced as a second-half substitute for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but his evening lasted just a few moments before going down clutching his calf in agony. Joaquin Correa was called in to replace Zielinski three minutes after he was brought on.

The Nerazzurri have confirmed that the 30-year-old reported for further medical tests at the Humanitas facility in Rozzano on Monday, which has revealed a medial ligament calf injury in his right leg.

Zielinski is expected to miss at least two months of action as a result of his injury, which means that he is unlikely to return before May. There is a possibility that he is not fully fit before the end of the 2024-25 season.

If that is the case, then Zielinski will have to wait until the FIFA Club World Cup in June to mark his return from injury.
