Last weekend, at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles and during UFC 311, not only was Umar Nurmagomedov (18-1). The Dagestani, Khabib’s cousin and contender for the bantamweight title, gave in to the infinite cardio machine that is Merab Dvalishvili (19-4) and, furthermore, He broke his hand. His agent Ali Abdelaziz told it after the fight, as well as Umar himself.
Now, four days after the first loss of his career, he has had surgery. “He will return at the end of summer,” Ali himself confirmed in a post on social networks. Nurmagomedov, hours later, posted today on his Instagram An image of a screw in the index finger of his left hand after surgery.
The fracture, his representative said earlier in the week, occurred in the first round of his unanimous decision loss to champion Merab… although he and his team argued that excuses are useless in a fight that, however, they believe they have won on points. The judges (and all UFC analysts) think differently.
“There are no excuses. I will become the champion. The rest is not important. Praise Allah in any situation. And I don’t think I have lost this battle even if the entire world convinces me otherwise. I will deal with the injuries and return to the cage,” the Dagestani wrote.

Umar now has another challenge: accompany his brother Usman Nurmagomedov (18-0, same record that Umar had) in his defense of the Bellator lightweight title belt against Irishman Paul Hughés. It will be this weekend in Dubai.
