Bad news for Bayer Leverkusen: The Werkself announced on Sunday that offensive player Martin Terrier was ending the season early. The 27-year-old Frenchman tore his right Achilles tendon in the 3-1 home win against Borussia Mönchengladbach; he was substituted after eight minutes. An MRI scan confirmed the diagnosis. According to the reigning champions, Terrier will undergo surgery on Monday and will then begin his rehabilitation.
“This is a hard blow for Martin and also for us as a club. But we will support him wherever we can,” explained sports director Simon Rolfes. “Something similar happened to Charles Aránguiz and after his injury he also became an absolute top player at Bayer 04.”
Terrier was signed by Stade Rennes for 20 million euros last summer and has since scored four goals in 20 games across all competitions. The Chilean Aránguiz (35) was on the ball 214 times for Bayer from 2015 to 2023 (17 goals, 28 assists) and developed into an undisputed regular in midfield after an early Achilles tendon rupture.
