As a Marmoush replacement: Wahi is back in focus at Eintracht Frankfurt

The departure of Eintracht Frankfurt’s top scorer Omar Marmoush to Manchester City is not yet perfect, but speculation about his successor has long been running hot. In France, a name is now being mentioned again that was already a topic at the SGE: Elye Wahi.

The 22-year-old was supposed to join Eintracht before last season. Wahi himself confirmed that Frankfurt was “hot”. Instead of going to Hesse, a year later he went to Olympique Marseille, where the junior national player is under a long-term contract until 2029. Les Phocéens could go into negotiations with the Frankfurt team with corresponding confidence.

But things don’t seem to have gotten that far yet. According to information from “RMC” reporter Fabrice Hawkins, Eintracht is trying to get Wahi, while OM is understandably less in a hurry. They don’t want to sell the player and wouldn’t give him away if at least the purchase price from last summer doesn’t come back. At the Olympics this season, Wahi only made seven starting eleven appearances on the first eight match days.

The sum paid by OM is 25 million euros, which is 50 million euros below what the Frankfurt-based company could probably get for Marmoush. In this regard, “Sky” is talking about a total package including bonuses of 75 million euros. Bonuses would probably also have to be paid on Wahi’s transfer. Even with the basic fee, the Frenchman with Ivorian roots, who was born near Paris, would be the most expensive purchase in Eintracht’s history. For comparison: the Adlerträger paid 16.5 million euros for their possible future colleague Hugo Ekitiké.

Wahi’s market value had fallen sharply since previous reports of Frankfurt’s interest in 2023. At that time he climbed from 35 to 40 million euros at RC Lens. Wahi’s valuation was already reduced there by 5 million and with the move to Marseille in two steps to the current 25 million euros. According to the report, whether the SGE is prepared to pay this price will be clarified in ongoing discussions. In addition to Eintracht, two English clubs, including West Ham United, are also said to be interested in Wahi.
