On the 17th matchday of the Bundesliga, the offensives were once again in good shape. The ball ended up in the net 35 times in nine games, confirming the trend this season. With 504 goals, it was the highest-scoring first half of the season in 33 years. Compared to Europe’s top leagues, the German upper house is left behind.
In the 1991/92 season, the only one with 20 teams due to German reunification, the Bundesliga teams scored 510 goals on the first 17 matchdays. A cut that could not be maintained, so that the 1,000 mark was missed by six hits. This has been broken 13 times in history, most recently in 1984/85, when the teams scored 569 times in the first half of the season – a record. In terms of a complete season, the previous year was unmatched: the Bundesliga teams were successful in front of goal 1,097 times in 1983/84.
Last season, the Bundesliga clubs had scored 499 goals at half time, five fewer than currently. Above all, FC Bayern’s offensive played a significant role in this. The league leaders let their fans cheer 53 times, only in 2021/22 did the Munich team score more often on the first 17th matchdays. The current first half of the season is the one with the twelfth most goals in Bundesliga history.

Compared to Europe’s top 5 leagues, the Bundesliga clearly stands out from the competition. On average, 3.29 goals are scored per game, followed by the Premier League, where fans see an average of 2.98 goals in a game. Ligue 1 (2.96) is at a similar level to the English top flight, while Serie A (2.67) and LaLiga (2.59) fall significantly.
