Contract expires

For Lennard Maloney, who fell behind at 1. FC Heidenheim, there appears to be another option on the transfer market. According to “Sky”, the 25-year-old defensive player has received a written offer from 1. FSV Mainz 05 for a free transfer in the summer. A commitment this winter is also conceivable and is becoming increasingly likely, as FCH would then receive a transfer fee for US national players.
Maloney has recently been linked with Birmingham City and PAOK Thessaloniki. The “Kicker” also reported that FC Augsburg was interested – for next season. The current favorites for a surcharge are the zero-fives. However, there have been no negotiations between the clubs so far.
Vice-captain Maloney, who came to Brenz on a free transfer in 2022, was sidelined in Heidenheim at the end of the year. Coach Frank Schmidt did not consider him for the last two games and criticized the lack of focus on the sporting tasks. It is “definitely not” a question of whether Maloney will extend his expiring contract. “But in the overall context, the situation as to what happens next in the winter plays a big role,” admitted the Heidenheim coach.
The FCH has strengthened itself twice so far this winter with striker Budu Zivzivadze and Frans Krätzig, who can be used as a left-back and in the left midfield. There is still nothing on the exit side. Meanwhile, Mainz have so far only given up attacker Karim Onisiwo. In the defensive midfield, if there is a winter change, Maloney would have to compete with Dominik Kohr and Kaishu Sano.
