One of the most valuable Bundesliga professionals, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025, is facing a winter transfer: FC Augsburg’s Rubén Vargas is once again being courted by FC Sevilla – that’s what “Sky” and “Kicker” report. After Vargas signaled to club officials that he would not extend his contract, the struggling LaLiga club came forward with an offer of 1.5 million euros, but this did not satisfy the Augsburg team.
Update 09.01.2025: According to consistent reports, the clubs have now agreed on the transfer fee for Vargas. There is talk of 2.5 million euros plus possible bonuses. Vargas will complete the medical check in Spain on Thursday. In Seville he should receive a contract until 2029.
The Augsburgers’ negotiating situation is not optimal in the Vargas case. He wants to leave, his contract only runs for six months and so this transfer window is the last chance for a transfer. Especially since the Swiss has been lagging behind his form from previous years since a good European Championship 2024 with the Fuggerstadt team.
