FC St. Pauli has introduced Abdoulie Ceesay, its third new signing this winter. The 20-year-old storm talent played on loan for Paide Linnameeskond in Estonia’s first division until recently; his home club was Real de Banjul in his native Gambia.

For Paide, Ceesay scored 17 goals in 23 games and prepared seven goals. Before the agreement with St. Pauli, there was also interest in him from Belgium, France, Denmark, Sweden and England.

“Abdoulie has a very exciting overall package of technical and physical assets. He is still young and has always quickly adapted to the respective level at his previous stations. That’s why we are convinced that he will quickly take the steps to be recommended for use in the Bundesliga. At the same time, we would also like to give him the time he needs to get used to football in Germany,” said St. Pauli’s Andreas Bornemann about the third signing after James Sands (24; New York) and Noah Weißhaupt (23; Freiburg).

Coach Alexander Blessin said: “I am pleased that in Abdoulie we were able to sign an attacker who has qualities in all areas that are important to us. He is physically strong, actively participates in combination play, but also repeatedly offers deep running routes. He can do this with both feet and his head. We would now like to support him in using these skills effectively in the Bundesliga.”

St. Pauli, currently 14th in the table, had some catching up to do in attack: twelve goals scored by themselves are a negative value in the Bundesliga and are made up for primarily by their good defense (19 goals conceded). Hamburg’s joint top scorers are Johannes Eggestein (26) and Morgan Guilavogui (26) with three goals each.

“I am very happy about the opportunity to prove myself in the Bundesliga. I had very good discussions with the coach and the sports director and I am convinced that FC St. Pauli is the right club for my further development. At the same time, this is a big step and I will do my best to get used to the level as quickly as possible and to contribute my qualities to the success of the team,” emphasized Ceesay.
