After seven and a half years, left-back Mário Rui (33)’s time at SSC Napoli is coming to an end. As the Serie A club announced on Monday, they are parting ways and the joint contract with the routine player has been terminated. The working paper would have been valid until 2026.
Starting on loan in the summer of 2017 to date, the Portuguese is the Azzurri’s longest-serving outfield player and the professional with the second-most appearances from the current squad (227). Only his counterpart on the right side of defense, Giovanni Di Lorenzo (31), counts more appearances (251) in the Napoli jersey (among Napoli’s record players). Together they won the Italian Cup in 2019 and also won the Scudetto three years later. Mário Rui also won the Nations League title with the Portuguese national team in 2019.
