Ivan Prtajin is set to leave 1. FC Union Berlin on loan this winter in order to get more match practice than with the Iron Men. With the second division teams 1. FC Köln, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Hannover 96 as well as the Bundesliga promoted Holstein Kiel and FC St. Pauli, there are plenty of interested parties from Germany. According to “Bild”, you can now find another one in your own city – Hertha BSC also has the striker on the list.
Prtajin can look back on just five minutes of action in the first half of the season after he arrived from Wehen Wiesbaden in the summer with lots of praise for one million euros. There he contributed 33 goals and twelve assists in 65 games over two years and previously gained experience in European competition at NK Olimpija Ljubljana. Since the 28-year-old is no longer playing at Union, Hertha and Co. have the chance to get a top striker.
The signing of Prtajin would be a novelty for the capital city club, which has been second-tier since 2023. Never before in the club’s history has a player been signed directly by city rivals Union. The other way around, six players have already gone from West to East Berlin: Andreas Zimmermann and Gerald Klews started in 1995, followed by Sven Meyer a year later. It then took more than two decades until Julius Kade became the fourth player to switch sides. After Hertha’s relegation, Lucas Tousart and Alexander Schwolow also went this route.
At Hertha it is still important to replace the departure of Haris Tabakovic. No player in the league has more than five goals, 27 goals in 16 games only mean the tenth best offense in the league. Prtajin could provide a remedy, but it is not very concrete yet. There is no mention of negotiations or contact in the “Bild” report.
