Win vs. Bayern “great achievement”

After the surprise win against FC Bayern Munich, coach Bo Henriksen from FSV Mainz 05 was proud of his team. “It is of course a great achievement for us to beat the best team in Germany,” said Henriksen after the 2-1 (1-0) win on matchday 14 of the Bundesliga, which saw the team jump to sixth place in the table, at least for one night meant.
“We are happy and we are happy. If we weren’t happy when we won against Bayern, then we have a problem,” said Henriksen after his team’s strong home performance. The Dane spoke of a deserved victory. “Because we showed a lot of courage with the ball, we defended very well.”
22 points from the first 14 games are the best result since the 2010/11 season, when under Thomas Tuchel they were in second place with 30 points at the same time. After 13th place last year, the performance curve has clearly shown an upward trend again since Henriksen took over in February of this year. The Dane has an average points average of 1.66 in 29 games, and only in the Bundesliga it is 1.67 in 27 games – the best result of all Mainz coaches, ahead of Jürgen Klopp (1.13) and Tuchel (1.41 ).
But Henriksen didn’t want to hang too high on the success against Bayern. “Of course it’s a big win for us, but it’s just a win,” said the 49-year-old. Nevertheless, he should not be able to prevent the first fans from dreaming of qualifying for the European Cup. The Zero Fives were last represented in the Europa League in the 2016/17 season, but failed in the group phase.
