After starting eleven for Tottenham

Timo Werner is running after his form in the Tottenham jersey. Coach Ange Postecoglou had clear words for the performance of the loanee from RB Leipzig after the 1-1 draw against Glasgow Rangers: “He is nowhere near playing at the level at which he should be playing.” It was over for Werner at halftime.
Postecoglou, who only finished eleventh in the Premier League with Spurs after a weak first third of the season, is himself under criticism. About Werner, who he brought in from the start this time, he said: Even “if you let 18-year-olds play, that is not acceptable to me, and I told Timo that too. “He is an experienced German national player” and must lead the way.
During his second loan spell with the Londoners, Germany’s former top striker has played 711 minutes in 19 games to date. He scored his only goal in a 2-1 win against Manchester City in the EFL Cup. “In the current situation we don’t have many options. I expect everyone to at least try to do their best. His performance in the first half was unacceptable,” said Postecoglou. The Spurs are plagued by numerous injuries, with Richarlison and Wilson Odobert currently missing from the offensive line – things are even more difficult in central defense. Ben Davies, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are out there.
When asked how Werner took the lecture, Postecoglou replied: “I don’t really know. That’s not of great importance either. We need everyone, including him, to help because we don’t have the depth in the squad to leave people out when they play poorly.” Werner moved to Tottenham for the first time in January 2024 and used his performances to apply for an extension Loan until the end of the 2024/25 season – Spurs have a purchase option worth 12 million euros. In 2020, the offensive all-rounder moved from RB to Chelsea for 53 million euros, and two years later he returned to Leipzig for 20 million euros, where his working paper is dated until 2026.
