Loud and clear. Ilia Topuria (16-0) launched a message on social networks after the rumors and speculation about whether he would vacate the title by moving up to lightweight. The latter, something that ‘Matador’ himself said a few days ago on ‘COPE’.
But now, the Hispanic-Georgian wanted to clarify things with a message on his social networks: “I will not leave the title vacant. The decision to advance to the next category is completely mine. I haven’t had any conversations with the UFC yet, so everything is yet to be decided. Stop celebrating because I’m not going anywhere. “I have conquered my division and I will do the same in the next one.”

And in these last few hours many voices have been spoken about what will happen to the future of the fighter… and the featherweight division. Names like Diego Lopes have called for a fight for the belt (with Volkanovski) if Ilia left.
Topuria’s idea, as he indicated, is to fight in April or May… and do it now at lightweight to have a less aggressive weight cut than the current 16 kilos. But first, as he now explains, he must meet with Dana White and the UFC.
That is when it will be decided whether he finally has a rematch with Volkanovski at featherweight or changes divisions and goes up to lightweight in search of Makhachev’s belt. The Russian, meanwhile, prepares his defense against Tsarukyan. It will be next January 18 at UFC 311.
