Clubs from the same member association cannot be grouped and all clubs in pot 1 will be assigned to the first position of the group in which they are drawn.
No group can have more than one team from the same confederation. This applies to all confederations except UEFA, which will be represented by 12 clubs in the tournament. Therefore, four of the eight groups will feature two European clubs.
The 32 teams will be divided into 4 pots of 8 teams. Thus, those from pot 1 will be the seeds and the following, the ‘inferior’ teams so to speak.
And now, having explained the format of the tournament, let’s move on to the draw, which also has some peculiarities.
The two best teams in each group will advance to the round of 16where single-match qualifiers will be played until the final. In the event of a tie in the qualifying matches, the extra time and penalties to decide who advances to the next phase.
