Topraktepe is taking over for now

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is no longer Besiktas coach. The 49-year-old had to retire on Saturday after just under five months. The top club from Istanbul is only fifth in the Süper Lig after 13 games and only has six points in the Europa League after five games.
It was only in the summer that van Bronckhorst, who still had a points average of 2.01 at Glasgow Rangers (1.70 at Besiktas), took over at the second attempt. At the beginning of the year he was considered the new coach – at that time the former Polish national coach Santos was in the running. The previous assistant coach Serdar Topraktepe will now act as interim coach.
