Frank Lampard’s coaching career has been of limited success so far, but after almost a year and a half without a club, a new commitment now seems to be on the horizon for the 46-year-old. Talks with the English second division club Coventry City have been reported for a few days now, and according to Sky these are now very concrete.
Almost two weeks ago, the Skyblues parted ways with Mark Robins, who had led the club from the fourth to the second division, after seven and a half years. This season, however, Coventry is stumbling and is only 17th in the Championship (table) with 16 points from 15 games. Rhys Carr is currently looking after the team on an interim basis.

The decision about the successor should be made calmly, as owner Doug King recently emphasized on the sidelines of a fan meeting. “We have a large number of highly qualified candidates, of which Frank is one,” he is quoted by “Sky”. “If we find the right person and we can agree on what we want to agree on, then I think we can move pretty quickly. But if the matter is not clear and we need to go into certain things in more detail, it may take a little longer.”
Lampard has been without an employer since his role as interim coach at Chelsea at the end of the 2022/23 season. He previously worked at Derby County (2018/19), Everton FC (2022 to 2023) and as head coach at the Blues. Between July 2019 and January 2021 he collected an average of 1.75 points in 84 games; since 2000, only Guus Hiddink (1.52) in his second term in 2015/16 and Graham Potter (1.42) in 2022/23 have had a worse record as Chelsea coach.
