Apparently a severe punishment for Olympique Lyon: According to consistent media reports from France, the Ligue 1 club, which is in financial difficulties, has been given a transfer ban for the coming winter and a limit on the wage bill. In addition, OL is threatened with forced relegation to Ligue 2 at the end of the season if the financial situation does not improve.
In a recently published statement, OL reported debts of 505.1 million euros. There were also requirements in the summer of 2023 before the measures were discontinued last winter. Shareholder John Textor had made positive comments before a hearing on Friday: “The meeting went well,” “L’Équipe” quoted him as saying. However, his arguments apparently did not convince the French financial regulator DNCG.
The seven-time French champions are fifth in the table after matchday 11. For the last transfer summer there was a loss of 109.04 million euros.
